Should I Replace or Refinish My Tub

Why spend money on repairs when a brand-new tub can be bought for almost the same price as a repair?

A brand-new bathtub may be bought for less than $500, but replacing an old one would cost much more. Why? Despite not being the most expensive home repair projects, these areas typically draw the most attention.

The majority of the replacement cost was, in fact, initially hidden. Are there any examples of these “hidden costs” you might give us?

Tub Removal & Disposal Costs

Can you do it yourself to take the tub out of the bathroom? Is there access to the restroom or the lobby? If you can, how do you intend to get rid of it?

If you try to enlarge the tub that far, the plumbing for the new tub could not be compatible with the current fittings. Additionally, there is a good risk that you will break certain tiles. As a result, you could also need a tile installation and a plumber. Therefore, the price of repairing a $500 bathtub might rapidly rise to several hundred dollars.

Why Does Refinishing Outperform Other Methods?

The lifespan of an updated bathtub is the same as that of a new one. A repaired surface can last up to 20 years with proper maintenance, which is the same lifespan as a brand-new bathtub.

Do refinished bathtubs need particular maintenance?

Yes. Never use bleach on professionally refinished surfaces if you want them to keep their brand-new appearance for as long as possible. Like they would on a brand-new surface, abrasive cleaners like bleach will dull or remove the shine or luster.

If you want your refinished surfaces to last as long as possible and appear as good as new, keep the non-silicone caulking in good condition and avoid using a suction mat in the tub. By removing the mat after each usage, mildew accumulation between the non-suction mat and the tub can be prevented.
