Winter Pool Maintenance in New Jersey
New Jersey winters are no joke. Hard freezes, heavy snow, and the constant cycle of freeze and thaw can cause real damage to a pool that isn’t properly cared for in the off-season. Winter pool maintenance isn’t just about closing — it’s about protecting your investment through the months when the pool isn’t being used.
Gorlin Pools has been winterizing and maintaining pools through NJ winters since 1999. We know what this climate does to pools and we know how to prevent the damage that leads to expensive spring repairs.
Signs Your Pool May Have a Leak
Some water loss is normal — evaporation accounts for about 1/4 inch per day in NJ’s summer heat. Anything beyond that could indicate a leak. Watch for these signs:
- Losing more than 1/4 to 1/2 inch of water per day
- Water bill increasing without a clear reason
- Soft, wet, or sunken areas in the lawn near the pool or equipment
- Equipment running dry or losing prime
- Cracks in the pool deck or coping that are getting worse
- Chemical use increasing without explanation
- Air bubbles coming from return lines
